The Aceh Singkil District Government and 11 stakeholder representatives of the development partners, including Koltiva, have agreed on the Sustainable Palm Oil Governance Landscape Vision for Aceh Singkil Regency for 2024-2026 through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and have officially launched the Multi-Stakeholder Forum Dashboard to support the implementation of sustainable palm oil practices in Aceh Singkil.

The MoU was signed on July 7th by the representatives of Aceh Singkil District Government, Forest Management Unit VI (KPH VI), Yayasan Inisiatif Dagang Hijau (YIDH), Yayasan Ekosistem Lestari, Forum Konservasi Leuser, Swisscontact, Yayasan Hutan Tropis, KOLTIVA, PT. Sari Dumai Sejati (Apical), PT. Musim Mas, and Aceh Singkil’s Indonesian Palm Oil Farmers Association (APKASINDO).

This MoU aims to serve as a foundation and commitment for stakeholders in optimizing regional growth through accelerated sustainable development with a landscape vision approach in the Aceh Singkil jurisdiction. This vision consists of four main pillars: environmental, economic, social, and sustainable governance.

The environmental pillar focuses on forest ecosystem protection and biodiversity enhancement. The economic pillar commits to improving palm oil land productivity and producer welfare. The social pillar emphasizes inclusive multi-stakeholder engagement to address social disparities and conflicts. The sustainable governance pillar prioritizes structural and administrative support for sustainable palm oil action plans.

“The signing of the MoU and the launch of the Multi-Stakeholder Forum Dashboard are tangible commitments by the Aceh Singkil District Government to make this area a sustainable jurisdiction with optimal palm oil productivity and maximum protection of forest ecosystems, especially the Rawa Singkil Wildlife Reserve,” said Acting Regent of Aceh Singkil, Drs. Azmi M.A.P. on Monday (8/7/2024).

Aceh Singkil has a palm oil plantation covering a total of 77,512 hectares, managed by companies and independent producers. This contributes 31.8 percent to the Gross Regional Domestic Product (PDRB) in the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries subsector. This area is also part of the Rawa Singkil Wildlife Reserve, which is the natural habitat of the Sumatran tiger, Sumatran elephant, and Sumatran orangutan.

The Aceh Singkil landscape vision sets a goal of increasing palm oil productivity by up to 30 percent through intensification, which is expected to improve the living standards of the local community with its still high poverty rate. Meanwhile, the development of the Multi-Stakeholder PSDA Forum Dashboard, developed collaboratively by MSF Aceh Singkil members and is powered by KOLTIVA, aims to monitor and ensure the implementation indicators of the landscape vision, which will contribute to Aceh Singkil District’s achievement indicators.

The dashboard will also function to measure the performance of members in managing natural resources and other sustainable commodities in Aceh Singkil, including ensuring the progress of the Sustainable Palm Oil Regional Action Plan (RAD-KSB) indicators.

“Palm oil producers in Aceh Singkil hope that the Landscape Vision MoU and the launch of the Multi-Stakeholder Forum Dashboard can increase palm oil productivity and producers’ income,” said Agus Wanda Maik, Chairman of DPDK APKASINDO Aceh Singkil.

“Stakeholders and the government can fill in each indicator's achievements that contribute to the targets set in the landscape vision and monitor its progress on the collaboratively developed dashboard. This dashboard will be a measurable monitoring tool and show the commitment of all parties for the advancement of Aceh Singkil,” explained Christina Rini, Program Manager of Swisscontact Indonesia.

“We hope the Multi-Stakeholder Forum Dashboard, developed with KoltiTrace system support, can accommodate all forum members in reporting, measuring, and monitoring the progress of joint initiatives to achieve the Landscape Vision and RAD-KSB mandated by the regional government,” explained Mochamad Fachreza, Head of Sectors Koltiva.

The establishment of the Aceh Singkil Landscape Vision was carried out through a collaborative process involving the local community, provincial and national authorities, the private sector, and non-governmental organizations. A series of discussions facilitated by the Aceh Singkil Natural Resource Management and Environmental Forum resulted in sustainable palm oil governance indicators and the Multi-Stakeholder Forum Dashboard. “This agreed-upon Aceh Singkil Landscape Vision is expected to be a reference for stakeholders in implementing sustainable palm oil management practices, including reducing deforestation rates and increasing palm oil productivity,” said Nassat Idris.
